Beykoz Mecidiye Pavilion, which dates back to the Ottoman period and was built before Dolmabahçe and Beylerbeyi palaces, is one of the oldest structures in Istanbul.
Located on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus, in Beykoz, in the Hünkâr İskelesi area, Beykoz Mecidiye Pavilion is the first structure built of masonry and in the new style on the Bosphorus.
Beykoz Mecidiye Pavilion was started to be built by the Governor of Egypt, Kavalalı Mehmed Ali Pasha, in 1845 for Sultan Abdülmecid, and upon the Pasha's death, it was completed by his son Said Pasha in 1854 and presented to the Sultan as a gift.
Also known as Mecidiye Pavilion in honor of Sultan Abdülmecid, the structure is located at the peak of the grove park, which has a landscape arrangement that rises in sets, one after another, starting from the sea. In the early years of its construction, it was used by the Sultan as a boarding house for daily accommodations, and in later periods, it was used to host foreign dignitaries and ambassadors.
